✧ Fasting Ashura

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ، حَدَّثَتْنَا عُلَيْلَةُ، عَنْ أُمِّهَا، قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ لِأَمَةِ اللهِ بِنْتِ رَزِينَةَ: يَا أَمَةَ اللهِ، حَدَّثَتْكِ أُمُّكِ رَزِينَةُ

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَذْكُرُ صَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ ؟ قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ، كَانَ يُعَظِّمُهُ حَتَّى يَدْعُوَ بِرُضَعَائِهِ وَرُضَعَاءِ بِنْتِهِ فَاطِمَةَ ؓ، فَيَتْفُلُ فِي أَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَيَقُولُ: لَا تُرْضِعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ

✧ That she heard the Messenger of God ﷺ mention the fast of Ashura? She said: Yes, he used to venerate it so much that he would call for his suckling infants and the suckling infants of his daughter Fatimah ؓ, and he would put saliva in their mouths and say: Do not breastfeed them until night.
