✧ He came seeking permission to enter upon Uthman ؓ, so Uthman ؓ said: Do not give him permission. He sought permission, so Kab said: Give him permission, may God rectify you. So he gave him permission, and in his hand was a staff. Uthman ؓ said: O Kab, Abd al-Rahman, meaning Ibn Awf ؓ, has died and left wealth. What do you think? He said: He used to fulfill the right of God in it, so there is no harm upon him. Abu Dharr ؓ raised his staff and struck Kab, and said: You have lied. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: I would not love to have this mountain as gold, spending it and having it accepted from me, leaving nothing of it behind me. And I adjure you by God, O Uthman, did you hear? Three times. He said: Yes. He said: O Kab, enough. He said: I find in the Torah what I told you; God, Mighty and Majestic, said: God erases what He wills... to the end of the verse. He said: Indeed God, Mighty and Majestic, erased it. He said: I seek forgiveness from God, exalted be He.
