✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ went out for the funeral of a man from the Ansar. When he was placed, Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ said: O Messenger of God, do not pray over him, for he is a wicked man. The Messenger of God ﷺ turned and said: Did any of you see him doing any act of Islam? A man said: Yes, O Messenger of God, he stood guard with us one night in the way of God Almighty. So he prayed over him and threw soil upon him, and said: Your companions think that you are from the people of the Fire, and I bear witness that you are from the people of Paradise. Then he ﷺ said: O Umar, you will not be asked about people's deeds, but you will be asked about the prayer.
