✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to visit the poor of Madinah and attend their funerals when they died. He said: A woman from the people of al-Awali died. He ﷺ said: When she is present, inform me. He said: They came to him to inform him of her, but found him sleeping and the night had gone, so they disliked waking him and feared for him the darkness of the night and the creatures of the earth, so they buried her. When morning came, he ﷺ asked about her, and they told him that. He ﷺ walked to her grave, prayed over her, and said four takbirs.

machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it from Abū Umāmah b. Sahl b. Ḥunayf, and there is disagreement about it from him. Sufyān b. Ḥusayn narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Umāmah b. Sahl, from his father; this was said by Abū Sufyān al-Ḥimyarī, who is Saʿīd b. Yaḥyā al-Wāsiṭī, and by Muḥammad b. Yazīd al-Wāsiṭī, from him. Yazīd b. Hārūn differed from them both, and narrated it from Sufyān b. Ḥusayn, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Umāmah b. Sahl as a mursal report. There is also disagreement about Ibn Abī Dhiʾb: Shabābah narrated it from Ibn Abī Dhiʾb, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Umāmah, from his father, while others narrated it from Ibn Abī Dhiʾb as mursal. There is disagreement about Yūnus b. Yazīd from al-Zuhrī: Abū Ṣafwān ʿAbdullāh b. Saʿīd b. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Marwān narrated it from Yūnus, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Umāmah, from his father. Ibn Wahb, al-Qāsim b. Mabrūr, Shabīb b. Saʿīd and al-Layth b. Saʿd differed from him and narrated it from Yūnus, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Umāmah that some of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ informed him. ʿUqayl b. Khālid likewise narrated it from al-Zuhrī. There is disagreement about al-Awzāʿī: al-Walīd b. Muslim, ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid and Muḥammad b. Musʿab al-Qarqasānī narrated it from al-Awzāʿī, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Umāmah, from some of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. ʿĪsā b. Yūnus differed from them, and it is also said from Muḥammad b. Musʿab, narrating it from al-Awzāʿī, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Umāmah b. Sahl as mursal. Mālik b. Anas, Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah, Ibn Jurayj and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Isḥāq narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Umāmah b. Sahl as mursal. Maʿmar narrated it from al-Zuhrī as mursal, not going beyond him.

machine translationThe prayer at the grave has been narrated from the Prophet ﷺ through six routes, all of them good (ḥasan).

machine translationImam Aḥmad said: The prayer at the grave has been reported from the Prophet ﷺ through six routes, all of them good (ḥasan). Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said: Rather, through nine, all of them good (ḥasan), and he gave them all with their chains in his Tamhīd: from the hadith of Sahl b. Ḥunayf, Abū Hurayrah, ʿĀmir b. Rabīʿah, Ibn ʿAbbās and Zayd b. Thābit, these five concerning his prayer for the poor woman; and Saʿd b. ʿUbādah, concerning the prayer of the Chosen One over Umm Saʿd a month after her burial; and the hadith of al-Ḥuṣayn b. Waḥwaḥ, concerning his prayer, upon him be blessings and peace, at the grave of Ṭalḥah b. al-Barāʾ, then he raised his hands and said: "O Allah, let Ṭalḥah meet You laughing to You and You laughing to him"; and the hadith of Abū Umāmah b. Thaʿlabah, that he ﷺ returned from Badr after the mother of Abū Umāmah had died, and he prayed over her; and the hadith of Anas, that he ﷺ prayed over a woman after she had been buried, which could refer to the poor woman or to another.

machine translationThis is a mistake. The correct one is the report of Yūnus b. Yazīd and a group, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Umāmah, from the Prophet ﷺ, without his father.
