وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَرْجِسَ، وَأَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ يَقُولُ:
لَأَنْ أَجْلِسَ عَلَى جَمْرَةٍ فَتَحْرِقَ مَا دُونَ لَحْمِي حَتَّى تُفْضِيَ إِلَيَّ أَحَبُّ مِنْ أَنْ أَجْلِسَ عَلَى قَبْرٍ. قَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ: وَرَأَيْتُ خَارِجَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ فِي الْمَقَابِرِ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَأَجْلَسَنِي عَلَى قَبْرٍ، وَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ لِمَنْ أَحْدَثَ عَلَيْهِ

✧ For me to sit on a burning coal until it burns through to my flesh and reaches me would be dearer to me than sitting on a grave. Uthman b. Hakim said: 'I saw Kharija b. Zayd in the graveyard, and I mentioned that to him. He made me sit on a grave and said: "That only applies to someone who uses it as a toilet."'
