machine translationʿAṭāʾ b. al-Sāʾib narrates it from Zādhān from ʿAlī. Ḥammād b. Salamah, Shuʿbah and Ḥafṣ b. ʿUmar narrated it from him. ʿAbdullāh b. Rashīd narrated it from Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth from al-Aʿmash and Layth from Zādhān from ʿAlī. It is also narrated from Ḥammād b. Zayd from ʿAṭāʾ from Zādhān from ʿAlī as a statement stopped at him (mawqūf). Likewise al-Aswad b. ʿĀmir said from Ḥammād b. Salamah. ʿAffān raised it to the Prophet (marfūʿ) from Ḥammād b. Salamah and Shuʿbah from ʿAṭāʾ. But ʿAṭāʾ's memory had changed, and what is preserved (maḥfūẓ) from ʿAffān is from Ḥammād, who said: "I heard him mention from ʿAṭāʾ b. al-Sāʾib." The narrator then misread it and said "Shuʿbah".
