machine translationThis hadith of Ibn Sarjis is a halted (mawqūf) hadith, and whoever raised it to the Prophet (rafaʿahu) has erred.
in سنن ابن ماجه, p. 405 - Sulaymān b. Aḥmad al-Ṭabarānī
machine translationNone narrated it from ʿĀṣim from Ibn Sarjis except ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz; al-Muʿallā b. Asad was alone in transmitting it.
machine translationWe do not know anyone who traced it back with a connected chain (asnadahu) from ʿĀṣim from Ibn Sarjis except ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz.
in سنن ابن ماجه, p. 405 - Ibn Ḥazm

machine translationAbū al-Ḥasan said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. al-Mukhtār raised it, and he is trustworthy (thiqah), and it does not harm him that others halted it. He hesitated over grading it sound because he saw it only in the book of al-Dāraquṭnī, and the condition of al-Dāraquṭnī's teacher in it is not known. Had he seen it here, he would not have hesitated, because all its narrators are narrators whose hadiths are in the two Ṣaḥīḥs.
in سنن ابن ماجه, p. 405 - Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī
machine translationThe ruling goes to the one who raised it, because he added something. A narrator may give a legal opinion on a matter and then narrate it another time, and the halted (mawqūf) report is made a legal opinion, so it does not contradict the raised (marfūʿ) one.
in سنن ابن ماجه, p. 405 - Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī
machine translationIt has been narrated as raised (marfūʿ) and as halted (mawqūf). al-Bayhaqī said: The halted version is closer to being correct.
machine translationWhoever raised it has erred.
