“I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ‘There is no band of warriors that fights in the cause of Allah and acquires war spoils, but they have been given two thirds of their reward, but if they do not get any spoils of war, then they will have their reward in full (in the Hereafter).’”

machine translationThe criticism of this ḥadīth is that in its chain is Ḥumayd b. Hāniʾ, who is not well known, and there is something to consider in that, because Muslim, al-Tirmidhī, al-Nasāʾī and Ibn Mājah narrated from him. Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd said: The leading scholars narrated from him, and his ḥadīths are many and sound.
in سنن ابن ماجه, p. 2879 - Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī
machine translationIf you say: This ḥadīth is weak because Ḥumayd b. Hāniʾ is in it and he is not well known, I say: This is a statement that should not be paid attention to, because he is trustworthy (thiqah) and is relied upon as proof by Muslim. Al-Nasāʾī, Ibn Yūnus and others have declared him trustworthy, and no disparagement of him from anyone is known.
in سنن ابن ماجه, p. 2879 - Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī
machine translationʿIyāḍ related it and mentioned that some of them answered that it is weak (ḍaʿīf) because it is from the narration of Ḥumayd b. Hāniʾ, who is not well known. This is rejected, because he is trustworthy (thiqah) and is relied upon as proof by Muslim. Al-Nasāʾī, Ibn Yūnus and others have declared him trustworthy, and no disparagement of him from anyone is known.

machine translationSome of them rejected this ḥadīth and declared it weak (ḍaʿīf), saying: In its chain is Ḥumayd b. Hāniʾ, who is not well known. They gave preference to the first ḥadīth over it because of its fame. I say: This is nothing and should not be paid attention to, because al-Bukhārī mentioned this Ḥumayd b. Hāniʾ and said: He is an Egyptian who heard from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ḥubulī and ʿAmr b. Mālik, and Ḥaywah b. Shurayḥ and Ibn Wahb heard from him.
