What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationJarīr b. Ḥāzim was alone in transmitting it; no one other than him narrated it from Ayyūb, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās.

  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationThis is an error. Rather, it is as the trustworthy narrators (thiqāt) narrated it from Ayyūb, from ʿIkrimah, that the Prophet ﷺ — as a mursal report — among them Ibn ʿUlayyah and Ḥammād b. Zayd, that a man married; and this is the correct version. I said: From whom is the mistake? He said: It should be from Ḥusayn, for no one other than him narrated it from Jarīr.

machine translationThe hadith of Ayyūb is not sound (ṣaḥīḥ).

  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

machine translationIts narrators are trustworthy (thiqāt), but it was faulted (uʿilla) for being mursal.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationRaising it to the Prophet (marfūʿ) is an error.

  • Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī

machine translationIbn Ḥazm said: It is sound (ṣaḥīḥ) to the utmost degree of soundness, and nothing contradicts it.

  • Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī

machine translationIbn al-Qaṭṭān declared it sound (ṣaḥḥaḥahu).
