أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ:

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُصَلِّي إِلَى سَارِيَةٍ، فَذَهَبَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ يَمُرُّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، فَمَنَعَهُ، فَذَهَبَ لِيَعُودَ، فَضَرَبَهُ ضَرْبَةً فِي صَدْرِهِ، وَكَانَ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ، فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِمَرْوَانَ، فَلَقِيَهُ مَرْوَانُ فَقَالَ: مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى أَنْ ضَرَبْتَ ابْنَ أَخِيكَ ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى شَيْءٍ يَسْتُرُهُ فَذَهَبَ أَحَدٌ يَمُرُّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَلْيَمْنَعْهُ، فَإِنْ أَبَى فَلْيُقَاتِلْهُ، فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ شَيْطَانٌ، فَإِنَّمَا ضَرَبْتُ الشَّيْطَانَ

Translation

✧ He used to pray towards a pillar. A man from Banu Umayyah went to pass in front of him, so he prevented him. He went to return, so he struck him a blow on his chest. He was a man from Banu Umayyah. That was mentioned to Marwan. Marwan met him and said, "What made you strike your nephew?" He said, "The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'When one of you prays towards something that screens him, and someone goes to pass in front of him, let him prevent him. If he refuses, let him fight him, for he is only a devil.' Indeed, I only struck the devil."
