✧ I was among those who came to the Prophet ﷺ, and I said, “I will certainly observe the prayer of the Messenger of God ﷺ to see how he prays.” When he sat, he spread his left leg, then placed his left hand on his left thigh, then placed the edge of his right elbow on his right thigh, then made a knot—meaning two fingers—then made a circle, and began pointing with his index finger while supplicating. Ibn Khashram said: He made a circle with the middle finger and thumb, and raised the one between them to supplicate with it.

machine translationThe entire hadith revolves around ʿĀṣim b. Kulayb, from his father, and a group narrated it from ʿĀṣim, as al-Bayhaqī said. ʿĀṣim is among the men of Muslim and the Sunan. Abū Dāwūd said: He was the best of the people of Kufa, and was one of the devout worshippers. Aḥmad said: There is no harm in his hadith. Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī said: He is upright (ṣāliḥ). Ibn al-Madīnī said: He is not to be used as proof when he is alone in narrating.

  • Mubarakpūri

machine translationThere is no inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) in it; rather it is the preponderant report, in reply to the Ḥanafīs.
