✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ taught us the prayer. He said: He said the takbir, and when he wanted to bow, he placed his hands together between his knees and bowed. That reached Sa'd, and he said: My brother spoke the truth; we used to do this, then we were commanded with this—meaning holding the knees.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationA hadith narrated by Sufyān al-Thawrī from ʿĀṣim b. Kulayb, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Aswad, from ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbdullāh: that the Prophet ﷺ stood and said the takbīr and raised his hands, then did not repeat it. This is an error; it is said that al-Thawrī made a mistake (wahm) in it. A group narrated it from ʿĀṣim, and all of them said that the Prophet ﷺ began the prayer and raised his hands, then bowed, and joined his palms together (ṭabbaqa) and placed them between his knees. No one said what al-Thawrī narrated.
