✧ I was with Mu'awiyah b. Abi Sufyan, and the muezzin said: "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar." Mu'awiyah said: Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar. He said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. Mu'awiyah said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. He said: I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Mu'awiyah said: I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. الصحيح عيسى بن عمرو كما قال ابن جريج وأبو سلمة عن وهيب
in صحيح ابن خزيمة, p. 487 - Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr
حديث معاوية في هذا الباب مضطرب الألفاظ وأظن أبا داود إنما تركه لذلك وكذلك البخاري
machine translationThe hadith of Muʿāwiyah in this chapter is inconsistent in its wording (muḍṭarib al-alfāẓ), and I think that Abū Dāwūd left it out for this reason, and likewise al-Bukhārī.
