✧ Hajj of the hired camel-drivers

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ التَّيْمِيِّ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ:

إِنَّا قَوْمٌ نُكْرَى فِي هَذَا الْوَجْهِ، وَإِنَّ قَوْمِي يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ لَا حَجَّ لَنَا، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: أَلَسْتُمْ تَطُوفُونَ بِالْبَيْتِ ؟ أَلَسْتُمْ تَسْعَوْنَ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ ؟ أَلَسْتُمْ، أَلَسْتُمْ ؟ إِنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ مِثْلِ مَا سَأَلْتَنِي فَلَمْ يَدْرِ مَا يَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ تَبْتَغُوا فَضْلا مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ فَدَعَاهُ فَتَلَاهَا عَلَيْهِ، وَقَالَ: أَنْتُمْ حُجَّاجٌ.

✧ "We are people who hire out our camels on this route, and my people claim that there is no Hajj for us." Ibn ʿUmar said: "Do you not circumambulate the House? Do you not walk between al-Safa and al-Marwah? Do you not, do you not? Indeed, a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about the like of what you asked me, and he did not know how to answer him until it was revealed: 'There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord' [2:198]. Then he called him and recited it to him and said: 'You are pilgrims.'"
