حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ حُصَيْنًا يَذْكُرُ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ جَاوَانَ، عَنِ الْأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، فَذَكَرَ حَدِيثًا طَوِيلًا فِي قَتْلِ عُثْمَانَ، وَقَالَ:

فَإِذَا عَلِيٌّ، وَالزُّبَيْرُ، وَطَلْحَةُ، وَسَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ، وَأَنَا كَذَلِكَ إِذْ جَاءَ عُثْمَانُ فَقَالَ: أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: مَنْ يَبْتَاعُ بِئْرَ رُومَةَ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَهُ، فَابْتَعْتُهَا بِكَذَا وَكَذَا، وَأَتَيْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: قَدِ ابْتَعْتُهَا بِكَذَا. قَالَ: " اجْعَلْهَا سِقَايَةً لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَأَجْرُهَا لَكَ " ؟ قَالُوا: اللَّهُمَّ، نَعَمْ

✧ Then Ali, al-Zubayr, Talha, and Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas were present, and I too, when Uthman came and said, 'I adjure you by God, besides whom there is no god, do you know that the Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Whoever buys the well of Rumah, God will forgive him," so I bought it for such and such, and I came to him and said, "I have bought it for such." He said, "Make it a source of drinking water for the Muslims, and its reward is yours"?' They said, 'O God, yes.'
