✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ left after the morning prayer one day and came to the women in the mosque. He stood before them and said: “O assembly of women, I have never seen any deficient in intellect and religion more capable of removing the minds of men of understanding than you. And I have been shown that you are the majority of the people of the Fire on the Day of Resurrection, so draw near to Allah with what you are able.” Among the women was the wife of Abdullah b. Mas'ud. She returned to Abdullah b. Mas'ud and told him what she had heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and took some jewelry of hers. Ibn Mas'ud said: “Where are you going with this jewelry?” She said: “I will draw near to Allah and His Messenger with it.” He said: “Woe to you, come and give it in charity to me and my children, for we are more deserving of it.” She said: “No, not until I go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” He said: So she went to seek permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They said: “O Messenger of Allah, this is Zaynab seeking permission.” He said: “Which Zaynab is she?” They said: “The wife of Ibn Mas'ud.” He said: “Give her permission.” She entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I heard a statement from you, so I returned to Ibn Mas'ud and told him, and I took some jewelry of mine to draw near to Allah and to you, hoping that Allah will not make me from the people of the Fire. Ibn Mas'ud said to me: 'Give it in charity to me and my children, for we are more deserving of it.' I said: 'Not until I ask permission of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Give it in charity to him and his children, for they are more deserving of it.”
