حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي صَفْوَانَ الثَّقَفِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ:

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ: لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ، قَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ: أُرَى رَبَّنَا يَسْأَلُنَا أَمْوَالَنَا، فَأُشْهِدُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنِّي قَدْ جَعَلْتُ أَرْضِي بَارِيحَاءَ لِلهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: اجْعَلْهَا فِي قَرَابَتِكَ، قَالَ: فَجَعَلَهَا فِي حَسَّانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، وَأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ

Translation

✧ When this verse was revealed: “You will not attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love,” Abu Talhah said: “I see that our Lord is asking us for our wealth, so I call you to witness, O Messenger of Allah, that I have made my land Bariha' for Allah.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Give it to your relatives.” He said: So he gave it to Hassan b. Thabit and Ubayy b. Ka'b.
