✧ I took on a heavy debt, so I came to the Prophet ﷺ to ask him about it. He said: “We will pay it on your behalf and give it out from the camels of the charity.” Then he said: “O Qabīṣah, asking is forbidden except in three cases: a man who has taken on a debt, for whom asking is permissible until he pays it off, then he refrains. And a man struck by a calamity that destroyed his wealth, for whom asking is permissible until he obtains a means of livelihood or a sufficiency of livelihood, then he refrains. And a man struck by calamity and poverty until he speaks, or until three people of sound judgment from his people testify that asking has become permissible for him, until he obtains a sufficiency of livelihood or a means of livelihood, then he refrains. Anything beyond that is unlawful gain.”
