✧ I bore a burden, and I came to the Prophet ﷺ asking him about it. He said: 'Stay, O Qabisah, until charity comes to me, and I will order it for you.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Charity is not lawful except for one of three: a man who bears a burden, so begging becomes lawful for him until he obtains a support of livelihood — or he said: a sufficiency of livelihood —; a man struck by a calamity that destroys his wealth, so begging becomes lawful for him until he obtains a support of livelihood — or a sufficiency of livelihood —; and a man struck by poverty, so charity becomes lawful for him until he obtains a support of livelihood. Whatever is other than that, O Qabisah, is unlawful gain which its owner consumes unlawfully.'
