- Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr
machine translationIt has already been mentioned that Ibn Shihāb did not hear it from Sahl b. Saʿd; rather he narrated it from Abū Ḥāzim, from Sahl b. Saʿd. It is a sound (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith, established by the transmission of upright and trustworthy (thiqāt) narrators.
in صحيح ابن خزيمة, p. 255 - Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī
machine translationIbn Khuzaymah and Ibn Ḥibbān graded it sound (ṣaḥīḥ). Al-Ismāʿīlī said: It is sound (ṣaḥīḥ) according to the criterion of al-Bukhārī. So he said, but it seems he was not aware of its defect (ʿillah), for they differed over whether al-Zuhrī heard it from Sahl. Yes, Abū Dāwūd and also Ibn Khuzaymah reported it through Abū Ḥāzim from Sahl. This chain also has another defect, which Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned. In sum, it is a chain fit to be used as evidence.
in صحيح ابن خزيمة, p. 255 - Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd
machine translationThis hadith was deemed defective (muʿall) because of a break (inqiṭāʿ) in the chain between al-Zuhrī and Sahl, which is indicated by the narration of Ibn Mājah.
in صحيح ابن خزيمة, p. 255 - Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī
machine translationAl-Zuhrī did not hear this hadith from Sahl; he only heard it from one of his companions, from Sahl.
