✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me as a zakat collector over Bali and 'Udhrah and all of Banu Sa'd b. Hudhaym of Quda'ah. He said: I collected zakat from them until I passed by a man from them whose dwelling and land was the nearest of their dwellings to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Madinah. He said: When he gathered his wealth for me, I found nothing due on it except a bint makhad [a female camel in its second year]. He said: I said to him: "Give the bint makhad, for it is your zakat." He said: "That is one that has no milk and no riding ability. By Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never stood over my wealth, nor any messenger of his before you, and I would not lend Allah from my wealth what has no milk and no riding ability. But take this young, great, fat she-camel and take it." I said: "I will not take what I have not been commanded to take. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is near you. If you wish, go to him and present to him what you presented to me, and do so; if he accepts it from you, it is accepted, and if he rejects it, it is rejected." He said: "I will do that." So he went out with me and brought the she-camel he had offered me until we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said to him: "O Prophet of Allah, your messenger came to me to take the zakat of my wealth. By Allah, the Messenger of Allah never stood over my wealth, nor any messenger of his ever before him. I gathered my wealth for him, and he claimed that what I owe on it is a bint makhad, and that is what has no milk and no riding ability. I offered him a young, great, fat she-camel to take, but he refused, and here it is. I have brought it to you, O Messenger of Allah, so take it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "That is what is due on you, and if you voluntarily give good, Allah will reward you for it, and we will accept it from you." He said: "Here it is, O Messenger of Allah. I have brought it to you, so take it." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that it be taken, and he supplicated for blessing in his wealth.
