✧ It reached the Prophet ﷺ that I fast continuously and pray at night. He either sent for him or met him, and said, 'Have I not been told that you fast and do not break your fast, and pray at night? Do not do that, for your eyes have a right over you, your self has a right over you, and your family has a right over you. So fast and break your fast, pray and sleep, and fast one day out of every ten, and you will have the reward of nine.' He said, 'I find myself stronger for that, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Then fast the fast of Dawud.' He said, 'How did Dawud fast, O Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'He would fast one day and break his fast one day, and he would not flee when he met the enemy.' He said, 'Who can guarantee me that, O Prophet of Allah?' Ata' said, 'I do not know how he mentioned the perpetual fast.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'He has not fasted who fasts perpetually.'
