✧ The day of Ashura was a day that Quraysh used to fast in the pre-Islamic era, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast it. When he arrived – meaning in Madinah – he fasted it and commanded its fasting. Then when Ramadan was revealed, Ramadan became the obligatory fast, and he left Ashura. So whoever wished fasted it, and whoever wished did not fast it.
