✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ left Madinah heading for Makkah and fasted until he reached 'Usfan. He called for a vessel and placed it on his hand until the people saw it, then he broke his fast. Ibn 'Abbas used to say: "Whoever wishes may fast, and whoever wishes may break his fast." This is the hadith of al-Hasan b. Muhammad. Yusuf said: "The Messenger of God ﷺ traveled in Ramadan and fasted until he reached 'Usfan, then he called for a vessel and drank during the day so that the people could see him, then he broke his fast until he arrived in Makkah." He said: "Ibn 'Abbas used to say: The Messenger of God ﷺ fasted while traveling and broke his fast, so whoever wishes may fast, and whoever wishes may break his fast."
