✧ ʿItbān b. Mālik, who was one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and one of the Anṣār who witnessed Badr, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have noticed my eyesight is failing, and I lead my people in prayer. When it rains, the valley between me and them floods and I cannot reach their mosque to lead them. I would like you, O Messenger of Allah, to come and pray in a place I will take as a prayer place.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'I will do so, God willing.' ʿItbān b. Mālik said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abū Bakr came in the morning after the sun had risen, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked permission, and I gave him permission. He did not sit until he entered the house, then he said: 'Where would you like me to pray in your house?' I pointed to a corner of the house. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and said the takbīr, and we stood and formed rows, and he prayed two rakʿahs then said the salām. We seated him on a dish of khazīrah that we had prepared for him. Some men from the neighborhood gathered around us until a number of men had collected in the house. He said: 'Where is Mālik b. al-Dukhayshin?' Some of them said: 'He is a hypocrite who does not love Allah and His Messenger.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'Do not say that. Do you not see that he says lā ilāha illā Allāh, seeking thereby the face of Allah?' He said: 'Allah and His Messenger know best. We see his face and his advice are towards the hypocrites.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah has forbidden the Fire for whoever says lā ilāha illā Allāh, seeking thereby the face of Allah.'
