✧ Mu'adh used to pray 'isha' with the Messenger of God ﷺ, then return and lead his companions. One day he returned and led them, and a young man from his people prayed behind him. When it became long for the young man, he prayed and left, taking the reins of his camel and departing. When Mu'adh finished, he was told about it. He said, "This is hypocrisy. I will tell the Messenger of God ﷺ." Mu'adh told him what the young man had done. The young man said, "O Messenger of God, he stays long with you, then returns and prolongs for us." The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Are you a troublemaker, O Mu'adh?" And he said to the young man, "What do you do, O son of my brother, when you pray?" He said, "I recite the Opening of the Book, ask God for Paradise, and seek refuge from the Fire. I do not know your murmuring or Mu'adh's murmuring." The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Mu'adh and I are about these two, or similar to that." The young man said, "But Mu'adh will know when the people arrive and are informed that I have gone far, though he has come near." So they arrived, and the young man was martyred. The Prophet ﷺ later said to Mu'adh, "What happened to my adversary and your adversary?" Mu'adh said, "O Messenger of God, he was true to God and I lied. He was martyred."
