✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ used to go out on the day of al-Adha and al-Fitr and begin with the prayer. When he had finished his prayer and said the salam, he would stand, then face the people while they were seated in their prayer place. If he had a need to send an expedition or anything else, he would mention it to the people; and if he had a need, he would command them concerning it. He used to say: "Give charity, give charity, give charity." The majority of those who gave charity were women. Then he would leave. This continued until Marwan b. al-Hakam came. I went out holding Marwan by the arm until we reached the prayer place, and there was Kathir b. al-Salt, who had built a pulpit of clay and bricks. Marwan was pulling my hand as if dragging me toward the pulpit, while I was pulling him toward the prayer place. When I saw that from him, I said: "Where is beginning with the prayer?" Marwan said: "O Abu Sa'id, what you know has been abandoned." I raised my voice: "No, by the One in whose hand is my soul, you will not bring anything better than what I know," three times. Then I left.
