أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْوَهْبِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ: تَوَضُّؤُ ابْنِ عُمَرَ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ طَاهِرًا أَوْ غَيْرَ طَاهِرٍ عَمَّنْ ذَاكَ ؟ قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْهُ أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَهَا، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ: أُمِرَ بِالْوُضُوءِ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ طَاهِرًا كَانَ أَوْ غَيْرَ طَاهِرٍ، فَلَمَّا شَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ أُمِرَ بِالسِّوَاكِ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ. فَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَرَى أَنَّ بِهِ قُوَّةً عَلَى ذَلِكَ. فَكَانَ لَا يَدَعُ الْوُضُوءَ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ

✧ I said: "Ibn 'Umar's performing wudu' for every prayer, whether he was in a state of purity or not — from whom did he learn that?" He said: "Asma' bt. Zayd b. al-Khattab narrated to him that 'Abdullah b. Hanzalah b. Abi 'Amir narrated to her that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was commanded to perform wudu' for every prayer, whether pure or impure. When that became difficult for him, he was commanded to use the siwak for every prayer. Ibn 'Umar considered himself able to do that, so he did not abandon wudu' for every prayer."
