حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الدَّارِمِيُّ قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ، هُوَ الْمَكِّيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ: " مَتَى تُوتِرُ ؟ " قَالَ: أُوتِرُ ثُمَّ أَنَامُ، قَالَ: بِالْحَزْمِ أَخَذْتَ، وَسَأَلَ عُمَرَ، فَقَالَ: " مَتَى تُوتِرُ ؟ "، فَقَالَ: أَنَامُ ثُمَّ أَقُومُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَأُوتِرُ قَالَ: " فِعْلِي فَعَلْتَ ".

✧ The Prophet ﷺ said to Abu Bakr: "When do you perform Witr?" He said: I perform Witr then sleep. He said: "You have taken the cautious approach." And he asked 'Umar: "When do you perform Witr?" He said: I sleep, then I rise during the night and perform Witr. He said: "You have done as I do."
