✧ He stayed in Madinah seeking ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ, and he asked about him. They said: “He has traveled to Makkah.” So he followed him and found that he had traveled to al-Ṭāʾif. He followed him and found him in his field walking arm-in-arm with a man from Quraysh, and the Qurayshi was suspected of wine. When I met him, I greeted him, and he greeted me. He said: “What brought you today, and from where have you come?” I told him, then I asked him: “O ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr, did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention anything about drinking wine?” He said: “Yes.” The Qurayshi pulled his hand away and left. He said: “I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ‘No man of my ummah drinks wine but that his prayer will not be accepted for forty mornings.’”
