✧ He used to like date-palm stalks and would hold them in his hand. One day he entered the mosque with one of them in his hand and saw some mucus in the qiblah of the mosque. He scraped them off until he had cleaned them all. Then he turned to the people angrily and said: Would any of you like a man to face him and spit in his face? When one of you stands for prayer, he is facing his Lord, and the angel is on his right, so he should not spit in front of him nor to his right, but he may spit beneath his left foot or to his left. If he cannot help it, then let him do like this in the edge of his garment, and he folded part of it over another part.

machine translationIt is narrated by al-Ḥārith b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Dhubāb and Muḥammad b. ʿAjlān. There is disagreement about Ibn ʿAjlān: Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, Ibn ʿUyaynah, Khālid b. al-Ḥārith, Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar and Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Mujabbir narrated it from Ibn ʿAjlān, from Nāfiʿ, from Abū Saʿīd. It is gharīb from al-Thawrī; he was singled out in narrating it from him, and it is an error (wahm). The correct version is the hadith of ʿIyāḍ from Abū Saʿīd; the correct version is the hadith of ʿIyāḍ from Abū Saʿīd.
