The killing of Abū ʿAzza and Muʿāwiya b. al-Mughīra
[ مَقْتَلُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ] قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: وَيُقَالُ: إنَّ زَيْدَ بْنَ حَارِثَةَ وَعَمَّارَ بْنَ يَاسِرٍ قَتَلَا مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بَعْدَ حَمْرَاءِ الْأَسَدِ، كَانَ لَجَأَ إلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ فَاسْتَأْمَنَ لَهُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَمَّنَهُ، عَلَى أَنَّهُ إنْ وُجِدَ بَعْدَ ثَلَاثٍ قُتِلَ، فَأَقَامَ بَعْدَ ثَلَاثٍ وَتَوَارَى فَبَعَثَهُمَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ، وَقَالَ: إنَّكُمَا سَتَجِدَانِهِ بِمَوْضِعِ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَوَجَدَاهُ فَقَتَلَاهُ
Translation
✧ [ The killing of Muʿāwiyah b. al-Mughīrah ] Ibn Hishām said: It is said that Zayd b. Ḥārithah and ʿAmmār b. Yāsir killed Muʿāwiyah b. al-Mughīrah after Ḥamrāʾ al-Asad. He had sought refuge with ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān, who sought security for him from the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he granted him security on the condition that if he were found after three days, he would be killed. He stayed on after three days and went into hiding, so the Prophet ﷺ sent the two of them and said: 'You will find him at such-and-such a place.' They found him and killed him.
