Translation

✧ Ibn Isḥāq said: Hind also said: May God bless the eye of one who saw a destruction like the destruction of those men! O how many a weeper for me tomorrow in calamities, and a weeping woman! How many did they leave on the day of al-Qalīb, on the morning of that clamor—of every abundant rain in the years when the stars are sinking! I used to fear what I see; today my fear is true. I used to fear what I see, and this morning I am prostrate. O how many a woman will say tomorrow: Alas for the mother of Muʿāwiya! Ibn Hishām said: Some people of knowledge in poetry deny that this is by Hind. Ibn Isḥāq said: Hind also said: O eye, weep for ʿUtbah, an old man of strong neck, who fed on the day of hunger, who defended on the day of defeat. I am for him a woman bereft, grief-stricken, despoiled. We shall surely descend upon Yathrib with a torrential raid, in which are horses brought near, every noble steed long-bodied.
