Translation
✧ Kaʿb b. Mālik, the brother of Banū Salimah, answered him with what was said of poetry on the day of Badr, and he said: I marveled at God's command—and God is capable of what He wills, for God there is no overcomer. He decreed on the day of Badr that we should meet a people who transgressed, and the path of transgression among people is unjust. They had gathered and called to arms those near them of the people, until their assembly was multiplied. They marched against us, seeking none but us, with all of them—Kaʿb, all together, and ʿĀmir. Among us was the Messenger of God ﷺ, and the Aws around him; he had a mighty stronghold from them and a helper. And the company of Banū al-Najjār under his banner, walking in coats of mail while the dust was stirred up. And when we met them, each one striving for his companions, resolute in soul, patient, we bore witness that there is no god but God, and that the Messenger of God is triumphant with the truth. White, light swords were bared, as though they were flaming brands which their wielders made to gleam before your eyes. With them we destroyed their host and they scattered; and he who meets destruction is the wicked one. So Abū Jahl was thrown prostrate on his face, and ʿUtbah they left fallen, stumbling, and Shaybah and al-Taymī they left in the battle, and there was none of them but was an unbeliever in the Lord of the Throne. Thus they became fuel of the Fire in its resting place, and every ungrateful one shall come to Hell. It blazes upon them, its heat already kindled, with fetters of iron and stones, overflowing. And the Messenger of God ﷺ had said, 'Come forward,' but they turned their backs and said, 'You are only a sorcerer.' It was for a matter God willed that they should perish, and for a matter God has decreed there is no one to restrain.
