Those polytheists who were killed at Badr

Translation

✧ [From Banu 'Amir] And from Banu 'Amir b. Lu'ayy: Mu'awiyah b. 'Amir, an ally of theirs from 'Abd al-Qays. 'Ali b. Abi Talib killed him; and it is said: 'Ukkashah b. Mihsan killed him, according to what Ibn Hisham said. Ibn Ishaq said: And Ma'bad b. Wahb, an ally of theirs from Banu Kalb b. 'Awf b. Ka'b b. 'Amir b. Layth. Khalid and Iyas, the two sons of al-Bukayr, killed Ma'bad; and it is said: Abu Dujanah killed him, according to what Ibn Hisham said—two men. [Their Number] Ibn Hisham said: Thus the total of those counted for us among the slain of Quraysh on the day of Badr is fifty men. Ibn Hisham said: Abu 'Ubaydah narrated to me, from Abu 'Amr: that the slain of Badr among the polytheists were seventy men, and the captives likewise; and this is the saying of Ibn 'Abbas and Sa'id b. al-Musayyab. And in the Book of Allah, Blessed and Exalted: "Or when a disaster struck you, you had struck twice as much"—He says this to the companions of Uhud—and those of them who were martyred were seventy men—He says: you struck on the day of Badr twice as many as those of you who were martyred on the day of Uhud: seventy slain and seventy captives. And Abu Zayd al-Ansari recited to me for Ka'b b. Malik: So he stayed at the watering-place, among them seventy, 'Utbah among them and al-Aswad. Ibn Hisham said: He means the slain of Badr. This verse is in an ode of his concerning the account of the day of Uhud, which I will mention, if Allah Almighty wills, in its place.
