The command to fight the disbelievers
[ الْأَمْرُ بِقِتَالِ الْكُفَّارِ ] ثُمَّ قَالَ تَعَالَى وَقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّى لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ وَيَكُونَ الدِّينُ كُلُّهُ لِلَّهِ أَيْ حَتَّى لَا يُفْتَنَ مُؤْمِنٌ عَنْ دِينِهِ، وَيَكُونَ التَّوْحِيدُ لِلَّهِ خَالِصًا لَيْسَ لَهُ فِيهِ شَرِيكٌ، وَيُخْلَعَ مَا دُونَهُ مِنْ الْأَنْدَادِ فَإِنِ انْتَهَوْا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ وَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْ أَمْرِكَ إلَى مَا هُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ كُفْرِهِمْ فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ مَوْلَاكُمْ الَّذِي أَعَزَّكُمْ وَنَصَرَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فِي كَثْرَةِ عَدَدِهِمْ وَقِلَّةِ عَدَدِكُمْ نِعْمَ الْمَوْلَى وَنِعْمَ النَّصِيرُ
Translation
✧ [The command to fight the disbelievers] Then He, exalted be He, said: “And fight them until there is no fitnah and the religion is entirely for God,” that is, until no believer is tempted away from his religion, and the oneness of God is purely for Him with no partner therein, and that which is besides Him of rivals is cast off. “But if they cease, then indeed God is Seeing of what they do. And if they turn away from your command to that which they are upon of their disbelief, then know that God is your protector, who strengthened you and aided you against them on the day of Badr despite their great numbers and your few numbers. Excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.”
