The Building of the Shelter for the Messenger of God ﷺ
[ بِنَاءُ الْعَرِيشِ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: فَحَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ أَنَّهُ حُدِّثَ: أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ مُعَاذٍ قَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، أَلَا نَبْنِي لَكَ عَرِيشًا تَكُونُ فِيهِ، وَنُعِدُّ عِنْدَكَ رَكَائِبَكَ، ثُمَّ نَلْقَى عَدُوَّنَا، فَإِنْ أَعَزَّنَا اللَّهُ وَأَظْهَرَنَا عَلَى عَدُوِّنَا، كَانَ ذَلِكَ مَا أَحْبَبْنَا، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ الْأُخْرَى، جَلَسْتَ عَلَى رَكَائِبِكَ، فَلَحِقْتَ بِمَنْ وَرَاءَنَا، فَقَدْ تَخَلَّفَ عَنْكَ أَقْوَامٌ، يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، مَا نَحْنُ بِأَشَدَّ لَكَ حُبًّا مِنْهُمْ، وَلَوْ ظَنُّوا أَنَّكَ تَلْقَى حَرْبًا مَا تَخَلَّفُوا عَنْكَ، يَمْنَعُكَ اللَّهُ بِهِمْ، يُنَاصِحُونَكَ وَيُجَاهِدُونَ مَعَكَ. فَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَيْرًا، وَدَعَا لَهُ بِخَيْرِ. ثُمَّ بُنِيَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَرِيشٌ، فَكَانَ فِيهِ
Translation
✧ The building of the hut for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Bakr related to me that he was told that Saʿd b. Muʿādh said: “O Prophet of Allah, shall we not build for you a hut in which you will be, and ready your riding camels by your side, then meet our enemy? If Allah honors us and gives us victory over our enemy, that is what we would love; but if it is the other, you will mount your riding camels and join those behind us. For some people have stayed behind from you, O Prophet of Allah, though we are not stronger in love for you than they are. Had they thought that you would meet battle, they would not have stayed behind from you. Allah will protect you through them; they will counsel you sincerely and fight alongside you.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ praised him well and prayed for good for him. Then a hut was built for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he was in it.
