The statement of the Jews when the qiblah was changed to the Kaʿbah
Translation
✧ [His entering ﷺ the House of Midrās.] He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ entered the House of Midrās upon a group of Jews, and he called them to God. Al-Nuʿmān b. ʿAmr and al-Ḥārith b. Zayd said to him: “Upon which religion are you, O Muḥammad?” He said: “Upon the creed of Abraham and his religion.” They said: “But Abraham was a Jew.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said to them: “Come then to the Torah, for it is between us and you.” But they refused him. Then God, exalted is He, sent down concerning them: “Have you not considered those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They are invited to the Book of God that it should judge between them; then a party of them turns away, and they are averse. That is because they said, 'The Fire will not touch us except for numbered days,' and that which they used to fabricate deceived them in their religion.”
