Sirat Ibn Hisham 633

What was revealed concerning b. Ḥuraymila's request that God speak to him

Translation

✧ [What was revealed concerning Ibn Hurayzila's request that Allah speak to him] Ibn Isḥāq said: Rāfiʿ b. Hurayzila said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'O Muḥammad, if you are a messenger from Allah as you say, then tell Allah to speak to us so that we may hear His speech.' So Allah, exalted is He, revealed concerning that, from His word: 'And those who do not know say, “Why does Allah not speak to us or a sign come to us?” Thus spoke those before them, a saying like theirs; their hearts are alike. We have made clear the signs for a people who are certain.'
