Translation

✧ [Poetry of ʿIkrimah in supplication against al-Aswad b. Maqṣūd] Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿIkrimah b. ʿĀmir b. Hāshim b. ʿAbd Manāf b. ʿAbd al-Dār b. Quṣayy said: O Allah, disgrace al-Aswad b. Maqṣūd, Who seized the herd of camels, in which there were necklaces, Between Ḥirāʾ and Thabīr, and the desert; He withholds them, though they are wont to be driven forth, And he has joined them to black ṭamāṭim. Betray him, O Lord, while You are praiseworthy. Ibn Hishām said: This is what is sound of it, and al-ṭamāṭim are the barbarians / foreigners. Ibn Isḥāq said: Then ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib sent for the ring of the door of the Kaʿbah, and he and those with him of Quraysh departed to the mountain peaks and took refuge there, waiting to see what Abrahah would do to Makkah when he entered it.
