Translation

✧ [The first to strike hands with the Messenger at the second pledge of al-ʿAqabah] Ibn Isḥāq said: The Banū al-Najjār claim that Abū Umāmah, Asʿad b. Zurārah, was the first to strike upon his hand, while the Banū ʿAbd al-Ashhal say: Rather, Abū al-Haytham b. al-Tayyihān. Ibn Isḥāq said: As for Maʿbad b. Kaʿb b. Mālik, he narrated to me in his account, on the authority of his brother ʿAbd Allāh b. Kaʿb, on the authority of his father Kaʿb b. Mālik, who said: The first to strike upon the hand of the Messenger of God ﷺ was al-Barāʾ b. Maʿrūr, then the people pledged allegiance after that.
