What God revealed concerning the story of the Companions of the Cave
[ مَا أَنْزَلَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى رَدًّا عَلَى قَوْلِهِمْ إنَّمَا يُعَلِّمُكَ رَجُلٌ بِالْيَمَامَةِ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَأَنْزَلَ عَلَيْهِ فِي قَوْلِهِمْ: إنَّا قَدْ بَلَغَنَا أَنَّكَ إنَّمَا يُعَلِّمُكَ رَجُلٌ بِالْيَمَامَةِ، يُقَالُ لَهُ الرَّحْمَنُ، وَلَنْ نُؤْمِنَ بِهِ أَبَدًا: كَذَلِكَ أَرْسَلْنَاكَ فِي أُمَّةٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهَا أُمَمٌ لِتَتْلُوَ عَلَيْهِمُ الَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ وَهُمْ يَكْفُرُونَ بِالرَّحْمَنِ قُلْ هُوَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ مَتَابِ
Translation
✧ [What God Most High revealed in response to their saying, 'A man in al-Yamāmah is only teaching you'] Ibn Isḥāq said: And He revealed to him concerning their saying: 'It has reached us that a man in al-Yamāmah, called al-Raḥmān, is only teaching you, and we will never believe in him': 'Thus have We sent you to a community before which other communities have passed away, that you might recite to them that which We revealed to you, while they disbelieve in al-Raḥmān. Say: He is my Lord; there is no god but He. Upon Him I rely, and to Him is my return.'
