Something of Tubban's career

Translation

✧ [THE REMORSE OF ʿAMR AND HIS DEATH] Ibn Isḥāq said: When ʿAmr b. Tubbān settled in Yemen, sleep was withheld from him and insomnia was imposed upon him. When this exhausted him, he asked the physicians and the soothsayers among the diviners and augurs about what afflicted him. One of them said to him: "By God, no man has ever killed his brother or a relative out of aggression for something like what you killed your brother for, except that his sleep departed and insomnia was imposed upon him." When that was said to him, he began killing everyone who had commanded him to kill his brother Ḥassān from among the nobles of Yemen, until he came to Dhū Ruʿayn. Dhū Ruʿayn said to him: "I have an exoneration with you." He said: "What is it?" He said: "The letter that I handed to you." So he brought it out, and behold, in it were the two verses. So he left him, seeing that he had counseled him sincerely. ʿAmr perished, and the affair of Ḥimyar fell into disorder at that time, and they scattered.
