What happened to Abū Wahb during Quraysh's building of the Kaʿbah
Translation
✧ [What happened to Abū Wahb during Quraysh's rebuilding of the Kaʿbah] When they had resolved their affair concerning its demolition and rebuilding, Abū Wahb b. ʿAmr b. ʿĀʾidh b. ʿAbd b. ʿImrān b. Makhzūm — Ibn Hishām said: ʿĀʾidh b. ʿImrān b. Makhzūm — rose and took a stone from the Kaʿbah, and it leapt from his hand until it returned to its place. He said: “O assembly of Quraysh, do not bring into its building from your earnings anything but what is good; do not bring into it the hire of a prostitute, the sale of usury, or anything wrongfully taken from any of the people.” The people attribute this speech to al-Walīd b. al-Mughīrah b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUmar b. Makhzūm. Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Najīḥ al-Makkī related to me that it was told to him from ʿAbd Allāh b. Ṣafwān b. Umayyah b. Khalaf b. Wahb b. Ḥudhāfah b. Jumaḥ b. ʿAmr b. Huṣayṣ b. Kaʿb b. Luʾayy, that he saw a son of Jaʿdah b. Hubayrah b. Abī Wahb b. ʿAmr circumambulating the House, and he asked about him. It was said: “This is a son of Jaʿdah b. Hubayrah.” ʿAbd Allāh b. Ṣafwān then said: “That is the grandfather of this one — meaning Abū Wahb — who took a stone from the Kaʿbah when Quraysh had resolved to demolish it, and it leapt from his hand until it returned to its place. He then said: ‘O assembly of Quraysh, do not bring into its building from your earnings anything but what is good; do not bring into it the hire of a prostitute, the sale of usury, or anything wrongfully taken from any of the people.’”
