The account of Khadījah with Waraqah and the truth of Waraqah's prophecy concerning him ﷺ
Translation
✧ [The Account of Khadījah with Waraqah and the Truth of Waraqah's Prophecy Concerning Him ﷺ] Ibn Isḥāq said: Khadījah bt. Khuwaylid had mentioned to Waraqah b. Nawfal b. Asad b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā, who was her paternal cousin, and he was a Christian who had studied the scriptures and acquired knowledge from the learning of the people—she mentioned to him what her servant Maysarah had told her of the monk's saying, and what he had observed of him when the two angels were shading him. Waraqah said: "If this is true, O Khadījah, Muḥammad is indeed the prophet of this community, and I have known that a prophet is expected to come to this community, and this is his time," or as he said. (He said): So Waraqah began to deem the matter slow in coming and to say: "Until when?" Waraqah said about that: I have persisted, and I was in remembrance persistent For a grief that long has stirred my sobbing; And a description after a description from Khadījah, So my waiting has grown long, O Khadīj, In the hollow of the two Makkahs, hoping For your talk, that I may see from it an issue, From what a priest of the monks told us, Which I would hate to be crooked: That Muḥammad will prevail among us, And defeat whoever contends with him, And a radiant light will appear in the lands By which the creation will be kept from turmoil. Then whoever fights him will meet with loss, And whoever makes peace with him will meet with success. Would that I were present when that happens, And that I were the first of them to enter, To enter into that which Quraysh detested, Even if they clamor in their Makkah with clamor. I hope, because of that which they all detested, Toward the Lord of the Throne, that if they descend, they ascend. And is the matter of descent anything but disbelief In Him who chooses from the fish of the constellations? If they remain and I remain, then events will come At which the disbelievers will cry out with a great cry. And if I perish, every young man will meet From the decrees a destructive departure. I have persisted.
