Sirat Ibn Hisham 21
Something of Tubban's career
Translation
✧ [The reason for Tubbaʿ's fighting the people of Madinah] Ibn Isḥāq said: There was a man of the Banū ʿAdī b. al-Najjār called Aḥmar. He attacked a man of Tubbaʿ's companions when he halted among them and killed him. That was because he found him in one of his palm clusters cutting it, so he struck him with his sickle and killed him, and said: Dates belong only to him who pollinates them. That increased Tubbaʿ's rancor against them, and they fought. The Anṣār claim that they used to fight him by day and honor him as a guest by night, and he admired that of them, and would say: By God, our people are indeed noble.
