Account of the wells of the clans of Quraysh in Makkah
Translation
✧ [Rumm, Khumm, and al-Ḥafr and their owners] And there were wells dug outside Makkah, ancient, from the time of Murrah b. Kaʿb, and Kilāb b. Murrah, and the early leaders of Quraysh, from which they drank. They are Rumm, and Rumm is the well of Murrah b. Kaʿb b. Luʾayy; and Khumm, and Khumm is the well of the Banū Kilāb b. Murrah; and al-Ḥafr. Ḥudhayfah b. Ghānim, brother of the Banū ʿAdiyy b. Kaʿb b. Luʾayy, said—Ibn Hishām said: He is Abū Abī Jahm b. Ḥudhayfah—: "And long ago we dwelt for a time before that, and we drew water only from Khumm or al-Ḥafr." Ibn Hishām said: This verse is in a poem of his, which I will mention, God willing, in its place.
