Translation

✧ [Some of those taken captive and some of those killed, and Salmā's poetry about that] Ibn Isḥāq said: When their captives were brought to the Messenger of God ﷺ, a delegation of Banū Tamīm rode concerning them and came to the Messenger of God ﷺ. Among them were Rabīʿah b. Rafīʿ, Sabrah b. ʿAmr, al-Qaʿqāʿ b. Maʿbad, Wardān b. Muḥriz, Qays b. ʿĀṣim, Mālik b. ʿAmr, al-Aqraʿ b. Ḥābis, and Firās b. Ḥābis. They spoke to the Messenger of God ﷺ about them, and he freed some and ransomed others. Among those killed that day from Banū al-ʿAnbar were ʿAbd Allāh and two brothers of his, the sons of Wahb, Shaddād b. Firās, and Ḥanẓalah b. Dārim. Among their women taken captive that day were Asmāʾ bt. Mālik, Kās bt. Arī, Najwah bt. Nahd, Jumayʿah bt. Qays, and ʿAmrah bt. Maṭar. On that day Salmā bt. ʿAttāb said: By my life, ʿAdī b. Jundab met from evil a deep, toilsome abyss; enemies encompassed it from every side, and its might and its fortunes were hidden from it. [Al-Farazdaq's poetry about that] Ibn Hishām said: Al-Farazdaq said about that: And in the presence of the Messenger of God, Ibn Ḥābis stood with the plan of one resolute, ascending to glory. He released the captives who were in his bonds, their necks fettered in shackles. He sufficed the mothers of those left behind, upon them, the cost of ransom or the arrows of division. These verses are in an ode of his. ʿAdī b. Jundub is from Banū al-ʿAnbar, and al-ʿAnbar is b. ʿAmr b. Tamīm.
