Translation
✧ Poem of Ibn Unays on his killing of Ibn Nubayḥ. Ibn Hishām said: And ʿAbd Allāh b. Unays said concerning that: I left Ibn Thawr like a young camel, and around him Wailing women rending every slit-open garment. I reached him while the women's litters were behind me and behind him, With a white sword of water of iron, Indian-made, Biting into the skulls of the armored ones, as if it were A meteor of ghaḍā wood from a blazing firebrand. I said to him while the sword was biting his head: I am Ibn Unays, a horseman, not one who stays behind. I am the son of one whose cooking-pot time never brought down, Wide is the courtyard of his abode, not straitened. And I said to him: Take it from the stroke of a noble one, A ḥanīf upon the religion of the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ. And I was such that when the Prophet ﷺ was concerned about a disbeliever, I would race to him with tongue and with hand. The expedition is complete, and we return to the account of the missions.
