Translation
✧ [The poetry of al-Zibriqān in boasting of his people] Al-Zibriqān b. Badr stood up and said: We are the noble ones, so no clan equals us; from us are the kings, and among us churches are erected. How many of the tribes, all of them, have we subdued at the time of plunder, and the surplus of glory is followed. We feed at the time of drought—our feeder gives of roasted meat when no scattered clouds are seen. As you see, people's chiefs come to us from every land, falling down, then they are made. We slaughter the humped camels, healthy, in our root for the guests; when they alight, they are filled. You will not see us boasting against any clan except that they gained benefit and became the head that is cut off. Whoever boasts against us in that, we know him, and the people return while the reports are listened to. Indeed we refused, and no one refuses for us; indeed we are thus, in boasting, raised high. Ibn Hishām said: It is also recited: "from us are the kings, and among us the fourth is divided," and it is recited: "from every land is our desire, then we are followed." Some of Banū Tamīm related it to me, but most of the people of knowledge of poetry deny it belongs to al-Zibriqān.
